David Wortley
Mass Mitec Creative Collaborative Communications

David Wortley is owner and founder of Mass Mitec, a UK based independent consultancy specialising in the use of conferencing and collaboration technologies for knowledge management and social, economic and commercial development. Prior to founding Mass Mitec, David had a successful commercial career in telecommunications, computing, training and new media technologies with IBM and British Telecom.

David is a professional freelance facilitator for HP media solutions and acts as the European Project Manager for virtual training sessions in this region. As well as substantial experience with HP Virtual Classroom, David has also facilitated events with Placeware and other virtual conferencing products, and is also familiar with the Webex environment.

In 1997, David won a prestigious DTI award for the Harborough ComKnet (Community Commerce and Knowledge Network - www.comknet.org.uk) project, which, in April 2000, incorporated the use of web conferencing in a virtual event attended by over 250 participants. This project provided a foundation for the Harborough Community Learning Network (www.hcln.net) designed to support rural villages in learning and enterprise development. David has been applying web conferencing, collaboration and broadcasting technologies in innovative ways to create a model of sustainability for community learning and empowerment.

David devised THE Radio with Pictures Show concept, combining community radio broadcasting with web conferencing as a potential solution for tackling digital divide issues in developing nations.

As well as THE Radio with Pictures Show http://www.hcln.net/hfm/radioflyer.htm, David has also organised and promoted a number of virtual seminars and conferences whose archives can be viewed at http://www.hcln.net/conferences.htm.

David is also an accomplished speaker and has spoken at a number of international conferences focusing on ICT and Society. He has had papers published in Europe, Australia, USA and South America. David is a member of the Global Society Dialogue, Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility and Global Community Network organisations and an Honorary Advisory Council member of Ansted University, BVI of UK.
